18th-century armoire with white / gray 68" x 49½" x 26½"

From the Ardèche region in south west France, this rare 'armoire coffre' or cupboard with chest, dates from the eighteenth century. It has been beautifully crafted and is a fine example of folk art or 'art populaire'. It is in solid condition with some old repairs. The outside is chestnut wood with a recently applied white / gray paint finish. Two of the shelves have been replaced. There are four storage areas - the lower acts as a chest, accessed by lifting the shelf. Note the lock and key functions backwards - a charming quirk of folk art furniture! This will add a lovely touch of French country to any interior.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
